BRITTANY'S TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.

My favorite President by Brittany Wentworth

"My favorite President is Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Long Abe, or The Giant Killer, as he was known, was the first President of the common man and the first bearded President.
He was born in Kentucky in 1809 and later grew up in Indiana and Illinois working on the family farm. Even though he worked long hours, he found time to educate himself. He was a common man and loved the common people of America. He was also religious and loved God and enjoyed reading the Bible. Despite living on a poor farm, he studied hard and eventually became a lawyer. Later he ran for public office to help the new state of Illinois create good laws. I admire him for not giving up after he had been defeated in an election.
As President he didn’t use his power to gain personal wealth, but to help others who were less fortunate. Lincoln believed that every American should be free and have a chance to follow their own dreams as he himself had done.
I believe his life of hard work, persistence and love of the American people is a good example for all of us."
